Does this lag with massive arrays?

Shape Array is heavily optimized, but After Effects still has its limits. Generating a 5,000-shape grid with heavy extrusion and 3D rotation will push your CPU. We recommend building your layout first, then dialing up the visual complexity.

Does it work with non-native shapes?

Currently, the engine is designed to manipulate and extrude After Effects' native parametric shape layers (Rectangles, Ellipses, Polystars) to maintain maximum procedural control and rendering speed.
